Breaks and Continuities in Cultural Landscape Development
10–11 September 2026 | Velehrad, Czech Republic
The International Landscape Symposium is an international academic event dedicated to the development of cultural landscapes and the European Cistercian heritage. It will take place on 10–11 September 2026 in the historic Cistercian landscape of Velehrad, Czech Republic.
The symposium is organised by MAS Buchlov in cooperation with the Municipality of Velehrad and the international initiative Cisterscapes – European Heritage Label.

O sympoziu
Tématem letošního ročníku je „Přerušení a kontinuity ve vývoji kulturní krajiny“.
Přední odborníci z České republiky, Německa, Rakouska, Polska a Portugalska představí příspěvky zaměřené na:
vývoj cisterciáckých kulturních krajin v Evropě,
historické proměny klášterních krajin,
ochranu a interpretaci kulturního dědictví,
potenciál kulturní krajiny pro současný regionální rozvoj a cestovní ruch.
Součástí programu budou odborné přednášky, panelové diskuse, komentovaná prohlídka velehradského kláštera i exkurze do krajiny Velehradu.
About the Symposium
The central theme of the symposium is:
Breaks and Continuities in Cultural Landscape Development
Leading experts from the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Poland, and Portugal will present research on:
the historical development of Cistercian cultural landscapes in Europe,
transformations and continuity of monastic landscapes,
protection and interpretation of cultural heritage,
the potential of cultural landscapes for regional development and sustainable tourism.
The programme includes keynote lectures, thematic panels, discussions, a guided tour of the Velehrad Abbey, and a field excursion into the Cistercian landscape of Velehrad.

Friday, 11 September 2026
European case studies on Cistercian cultural landscapes.
Presentations by Cisterscapes partners from Germany, Austria, Poland, Portugal, and the Czech Republic.
Discussion and concluding remarks.
Field excursion through the cultural landscape of Velehrad, including the Cistercian wine-growing heritage.

Double rooms, triple rooms, an apartment, and additional rooms with shared bathroom facilities.
Breakfast can be ordered separately.

By Car
Velehrad is easily accessible by car from Brno, Olomouc, and Slovakia.
By Train
The recommended railway station is:
Staré Město u Uherského Hradiště
A shuttle service between the railway station and Velehrad will be provided for symposium participants arriving by train.

coffee breaks,
lunches on both conference days,
the official symposium dinner on 10 September.
